Hi guys! I know i have not updated this blog for a couple of months..and now i will continue the lesson. This time, i will break down the other part of hangul called "badjim" or 받짐. Let's start learning!
What is "badjim" (받짐) ?
Badjim is a final consonant in every syllables.
For example, 식탁, both ㄱ are badjim. 식당, ㄱ and ㅇ are the badjim.
Badjim is unique. They can be pronounced differently depending on what consonant placed in front of them.
1. ㄱ
ㄱ alone is pronounced as G or K as a badjim. However, if the consonant in front of them is ㄴ or ㅁ, they will be pronounced as ㅇ or NG
2. ㅈ, ㅊ, ㅅ
ㅈ is pronounced as J if syllable in front of them is a vowel. For example, 찢어 (jjijeo). If the syllable in front of them is not a vowel, then it will be pronounced as T. It goes the same with ㅊ and ㅅ. If syllable in front of them started with a vowel, they will pronounced as CH and S. However, if syllable in front of them is not a vowel, it pronounced as T. For instance, 숫자 (sutja).
3. ㅂ, ㅍ
ㅂ and ㅍ are each pronounced B and PH if syllable in front of them is started with vowel. For example 뽑아 (ppoba). However, they both will be pronounced as M if syllable in front of them started with ㅁ or ㄴ. For example, 입니다 (imnida).
